Lydia wakes to find that she’s chained down and blind. The only reference point she has becomes a man’s voice and hands.  She learns that they are required to perform in order to live.  As long as the audience remains entertained, she will be allowed to live.  Well, for now.

Joe has been held captive for a while and has learned how to survive.  Unfortunately, there has been too many times he was unable to save the others who have been brought in to entertain.  He is determined to protect Lydia and figure out how to get them both out alive.

I loved this book.  It’s is soooo not my normal type of story, but I could not put it down.  The story has so many layers and twists.  Some of them are very obvious and some are hidden until you stop and think about it.  This story is dark.  There are warnings on it for a reason.  If you are not prepared for this book, do NOT read it.   There is horror and torture.  There is also romance and many scenes are very erotic, even if, on some, your mind screams that they shouldn’t be.

I do have to mention Cyrus.  He is… well… evil.  But, he is also charismatic, and sexy… when he wants to be.  Which is usually right before he turns completely evil again.  His character is very well written.  You like him sometimes… but you still want to kill him.

This is not a story to read for escape.  It requires you to use your mind, and quickly involves your emotions.  I HATE horror movies, but even with the horror aspect of this book, the feelings behind it make it an awesome read.  This book is definitely on my pile to be read again and again.  Of course, I’m also waiting for the next book in the series.
